Published November 26, 2003

KHAIRPUR, Nov 25: Residents of the Saeed Ahmed Khan Lakho village on Monday observed a token hunger strike here on the Court Road to protest against the highhandedness of the Kandhra police.

The protesters told journalists that the Kandhra police had arrested two persons, namely Mohammad Saleh Lakho and Karim Bakhsh Samo, from the village on Sept 12 besides eight other persons.

They further said that despite a lapse of 72 days, they were neither produced in the court nor allowed to meet their relatives.

The father of Mohammad Saleh, Jalal Lakho, and others alleged that the police had detained the two villagers at some undisclosed place.

The protesters demanded that higher authorities should look into the matter.

DISPUTE: Four persons were injured on Sunday evening in an armed clash between two groups of the Bhatti community in a dispute over possession of a government plot in Nihal Bhatti village near Thari Meerwah.

The injured were identified as Rehmatullah, Niaz, Maqeem and Khair Mohammad.

The Thari Meerwah police arrested five persons — Rehmatullah, Niaz, Ali Bakhsh, Mohammad Aslam and Ishaq — after registering a case against 20 persons.

ROASTED: More than a hundred chickens were burnt alive on Sunday night in Abdul Karim Solangi village near Nangreja, Kot Diji taluka, when a poultry farm caught fire. The farm owner has sustained a loss of Rs200,000. However, the cause of the fire could not be ascertained.

FIR: Police constable Mohammad Sadiq Narejo has lodged an FIR against a truck driver with the Tando Masti Khan police for the killing of two persons, including a policeman.
