KARACHI: Education for women stressed

KARACHI, Nov 25: The objective to adorn women with education leads to the best education and bringing up of a whole generation.

This was stated by Sindh Minister for Women Development Dr Saeeda Malik while speaking as the cheif guest at a seminar on “Significance and power of women in society” at Sindh Madressatul Islam College here on Tuesday.

To enhance literacy rate among women, their social welfare and elimination of urban-rural divide were among the top priorities of present government, she said.

The minister said, “There are equal rights for men and women in our religion and women will have to walk side by side with men for the development and prosperity of the province and the country.”

Dr Malik urged general public to focus on education and health of girls so that they could bring up the next generation in a better way. “We will have to get rid of outmoded customs like the menace of dowry and other traditions that are deep rooted in our society.” She said that hundreds of girls, failing to fulfil the demand of dowry, had to wait for years to get married.

Lauding the organizers of the seminar, Dr Malik said that she would welcome suggestions and complaints relating to her ministry by the cadre of teachers and students.

Earlier, the welcome speech had been delivered by the college principal, Muhammad Ali Shaikh. —PPI
