KARACHI: Pakistan's number one tennis player, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, made it to the quarterfinal stage of Wimbledon's mixed doubles' event on Wednesday after a comprehensive straight sets victory.

Aisam, who is partnering with Kazakhstan's Yaroslava Shvedova, beat the British duo of Neal Skupski and Anna Smith by 6-3 and 6-4.

The third round contest, predominated by the Pak-Kazakhstan duo, lasted for 1 hour and 4 minutes. It saw them serve 5 aces, two more than their opposing team.

Aisam and Shvedova bagged 61 points in total with just 1 unforced error, two less than Skupski and Smith.

The duo will take on Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia and Marcin Matkowski of Poland in the first quarterfinal of the event on Court no 3.

This is Aisam's, who turned professional in 1998, 11th appearance in the grass courts' event.

His best performance in the doubles event came in 2010 when he made it to the quarterfinal round.
