The Communist Party of India and the Indian Emergency

By David Lockwood

Lockwood dissects a lesser-discussed aspect of the Indian Emergency, 1975 and the much-maligned role of the Communist Party of India (CPI). The book takes us through the evolution of CPI after independence, to its rather tumultuous relationship with the Congress Party.

The author uses sources from internal documents of the CPI, interviews with its members, and archives of the party.

Muntakhib-ul-Hikayaat

By Nazir Ahmed Dehlvi

This book is a delightful collection of Urdu fables — hikayaat. It comes complete with a section dedicated to explaining the meanings and contexts of some of the more difficult words. With many likable animal characters, it is the ideal book for children to help them build a steady foundation in the Urdu language.

Pak Institute for Peace Studies (PIPS)

One might have presumed after reading the title that the sixth biannual issue of the Conflict and Peace journal would focus largely on the Taliban issue. However, its scope aims to highlight how relations between the two countries encompass more than just this persisting issue; these include crucial matters such as curbing the drug flow and the impact of relations on regional stability.
