Shortage of flour in Bahawalpur

BAHAWALPUR, Nov 29: There is a flour shortage in the city and its suburbs.

According to a survey, flour disappeared from the market when the district administration increased its price on the eve of Eidul Fitr. The retailers allegedly hoarded flour and created an artificial shortage in the market during the Eid holidays.

Flour is currently being sold at the rate of Rs15 per kilogram in the open market and even then it is not easily available to the common man.

The crisis is likely to persist for another four days before fresh supplies reach the market, as the mills will start functioning on Monday.

YOUTH DIES: The son of a widow who was set to fire allegedly by two of his relatives about two months ago succumbed to his injuries in his house on Saturday.

Faisal Abbas of Kajalpur was set ablaze by Shahid and Nadeem after spraying kerosene on him for admonishing over eve-teasing. Faisal remained admitted to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital. He was shifted to his house on the occasion of Eid where he died.

His mother complained of poor response of hospital staff due to paucity of funds. She claimed that she had to shift her son due to financial constraints.

Police registered a case after many days of the incident but did not arrest the suspects.

NATURAL GAS: Federal Minister for Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis Mian Abdul Sattar Laleka has said at a public gathering at Fortabbas on Saturday that Rs290 million have been approved for the provision of gas to Bahawalnagar city by the prime minister.

He stated that Faqirwali-Khichiwala road would be repaired and dualized at a cost of Rs8 million while Fortabbas-Marot road at a cost of Rs6 million.

He hinted that the government would further reduce power tariff next year.

POISONOUS LIQUOR: Javed of Bakhri locality in Ahmadpur East died on Saturday after drinking poisonous liquor along with his friend who was admitted to the THQ hospital in serious condition.

MURDERS: A man was allegedly murdered in Ahmadpur East.

Sarfraz and his 11 accomplices allegedly shot at Sajjad and Yahya. They were rushed to THQ hospital where the former succumbed to his injuries.

The motive behind the murder is stated to be Sarfraz’s involvement in a robbery case.

Police have registered a case.
