PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has announced construction of two flyovers, one in Hayatabad and the other in Peshawar city, to ease traffic at the most congested points in the provincial metropolis. These projects would cost about Rs2 billion.

He directed to finalise arrangements so that these projects could be inaugurated in August. He said that his government had already planned a metro bus service for Peshawar and these projects should be designed in a manner not create any hurdle to the metro service in Peshawar city.

According to a statement, the chief minister said this while presiding over a meeting on the construction of flyovers, roads and other projects in Peshawar here on Sunday. Senior minister for local government Inayatullah Khan, chief secretary Amjad Ali Khan, director general PDA and officials of Nespak, NLC and other departments attended the meeting.


CM says work on projects to start next month


Addressing the participants, Mr Khattak directed the relevant quarters for acquisition of land, sayinig that those affected by different projects should be properly compensated. He also asked the participants to plan other projects of public importance in the city. The ultimate goal is to make Peshawar a model city, he said.

Mr Khattak ordered the officials to go all-out for clearing encroachments in the city. He also directed to repair the Bara Road and plan its widening in consultation with the stakeholders. He called for undertaking a survey of Dalazak road and preparation of a plan for its beautification. He also asked for the beautification of Peshawar city and Assembly Bridge.

Meanwhile, the provincial government has decided to establish a cadet college for girls in Mardan and formed a team to select a site for the project.

According to a statement issued here on Sunday, the chief minister while presiding over a meeting here at the CM Secretariat directed to form a joint team headed by provincial education minister Mohammad Atif Khan to select a site for the women’s cadet college, Mardan.

It was stated that the team would visit the Women University, Agriculture University and other suitable places in Mardan for establishment of the cadet college. It would make a decision to expeditiously start the process of establishing the women cadet college.

Besides Atif Khan the meeting was attended by MPA Zahid Durrani, administrative secretaries of C&W and other departments, vice-chancellor of Women University, Mardan, and commissioner Mardan.

Mr Khattak also directed to get NoC from the finance department to finalise the establishment of Mardan Water and Sanitation Company. The CM directed to select different sites for dumping of waste in Mardan.
