ISLAMABAD: An apparent break-in at a suite belonging to Senator Sassui Palijo in the Parliament Lodges was discovered on Tuesday.

The break-in was discovered after Ms Palijo returned to the lodges from her native town after over a month, one of her staffers said.

When Ms Palijo returned, she found the window, which opened into the gallery, removed. The staffer said it appeared to have been deliberately removed by someone trying to gain entry. The staffer added that if the window had fallen, the glass would have broken.

The room’s false ceiling also seemed to have been moved and files on the senator’s table appeared to have been opened, while other papers were found scattered.

The DSP for Parliament Lodges security was informed of the incident who arrived to take the senator’s statement. The staffer added that nothing was found missing.

A statement issued by the National Assembly Secretariat Media Wing stated that the acting National Assembly speaker, Murtaza Javed Abbasi, visited Ms Palijo’s apartment after hearing of the incident.

He directed security agencies and the CDA to investigate the matter and submit a report within 24 hours. The DSP security was also directed to submit a report into a theft at an apartment belonging to MNA Talal Chaudhry along with the report on the latest break-in.
