The new ‘Iron Man’ is a woman
There’s a new Iron Man coming to comic books — and it’s not a man.
A black female character is taking over the suit from Tony Stark, Time reported. Riri Williams “is a science genius who enrols in MIT at the age of 15” and “comes to the attention of Tony when she builds her own Iron Man suit in her dorm,” according to the magazine.
Iron Man writer Brian Michael Bendis told Time the inspiration for Williams came from his time spent working a few years ago on a television show in Chicago. The show did not end up airing, he said, because of the amount of violent content.
“This story of this brilliant, young woman whose life was marred by tragedy that could have easily ended her life — just random street violence — and went off to college was very inspiring to me,” Bendis said. “I thought that was the most modern version of a superhero or super heroine story I had ever heard.”
Bendis acknowledged that some fans have been less than receptive to the new character. In just the past few years, the comic company has, in addition to Williams and Morales, introduced a female Thor, an African-American Captain America and a Muslim Ms Marvel.
Harry Styles is officially going solo
Harry Styles is officially going solo. The One Direction star has signed a recording contract with Columbia Records, Billboard reported and surprisingly, no one is mad about it! According to Billboard, deal terms are not yet known and there’s no timeline for the release of the album.
Rumours that the Brit, 22, was going solo started last year, after four songs by Styles were registered with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. During an interview with Billboard, 1D founder Simon Cowell said he wasn’t sure of the group’s future after the release of their fifth studio album, Made in the A.M., in November 2015. Regarding Styles’ solo career, Cowell encouraged it at the time, telling Billboard that Styles has “got great taste.”
“All the writers and producers want to work with him, understandably, but he probably won’t rush into it,” he explained.
Enrique Iglesias a year after drone accident
It’s been a little over a year since the Spanish singer suffered an accident with a flying drone at one of his concert in Tijuana, Mexico. Iglesias opened up during a recent interview with Univision’s Primer Impacto and talked about how he’s recovering.
The 41-year-old star was a total professional and only stopped his concert for a moment to be treated by paramedics and then continued with his performance.
“I was really surprised with the amount of blood I was losing,” he told the Univision host. I felt a bit of shame and embarrassment in front of my fans, especially with the crowd that was right in the very front,” he said.
“Every time I would move my hand, you could just see blood everywhere. And at that moment I didn’t realise how bad it was because I couldn’t feel pain. I felt pain after the surgery.”
After a long reconstruction surgery, the star hasn’t fully recovered yet and can’t feel on one of the injured fingers. “Honestly, I still can’t feel anything from the nail and below that.”
Lesson learned, Enrique — never try to catch a flying drone.
