KARACHI: Pakistan No 2 Sohail Shehzad, a former Asian Games team event bronze medallist, stormed back from 1-3 down to send Egyptian cueist Karim Abdelmeguid packing 4-3 in the International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) 6-Reds Championship at Sharm-el-Sheikh on Saturday.
According to results made available here, Sohail, who won his group D opener against Mohammad Qureshi of Mozambique by default following a walkover, struggled to win against Egyptian player 9-49, 25-36, 40-21, 20-34, 39-7, 33-15, 33-23.
He has yet to play two more matches of the group against Afghanistan’s Mohammad Rais Senzahi and Indian Bharat Sissodia.
National champion Mohammad Bilal, also demolished an Egyptian Ashraf El Gharib 4-0 to open his account in group X. He was home 42-1, 50-0, 35-0, 30-0.
It is pertinent to mention that Bilal had lost to Darren Morgan of the Wales 2-4 in his group opener.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan 2 pair of Sohail and Bilal suffered astonishing 1-4 defeat at the hands of India 8 in their third team event match played on Friday.
Having won two earlier matches, Pakistan’s second string failed to maintain the pace as Indians were home 69--1, 49-78, 92-41, 87-31, 71-16.
Pakistan 1 (Babar Masih and Asjad Iqbal) handed straight 5-0 defeats to Egypt 3 and Jordan respectively.
