Prettiest goat contest

The Lithuanian village of Ramygala held its annual beauty pageant, and the top prize went to a 16-month-old female goat called Demyte, or “Little Spot”.

Around 500 people braved the summer heat to attend the parade in honour of the goat, a traditional symbol of the northern village. The pageant also included a marching band, dancers in fancy costumes and a ‘king’ and ‘queen’ presiding over ceremonies.

It was the first time Demyte’s owner, 74-year-old retired veterinarian Ferdinandas Petkevicius, had won the competition after six years of trying.

“The only thing we didn’t do to prepare the goat for the pageant is we didn’t polish its nails — because we thought of it too late,” said Petkevicius, holding the leash of the winning white goat with black spots, who was decorated with two roses on its head.

Cakes, jars of honey, books and coupons for a haircut were awarded to winners’ owners, before they walked their goats away from a by-then generously stained red carpet.

A fan for your phone!

It takes a lot time to search a photo editor that makes your pictures just the way you want but sometimes, it’s all about going for that epic wind-swept look that you don’t get it in photo editors, of course!

However, now the perfect device has been created for that. And this is an iPhone fan — which allows you to go for that perfect blustery ‘at-one-with nature’ kinda look.

And it has already proved pretty popular on Twitter — with a flurry of responses claiming to have rushed out and ordered the devices.

Historic general store sold at auction

A historic general store and tourist attraction in Bath, New Hemisphere, US, closed this year after being auctioned for $235,000.

The Brick Store, was built in the late 1700s or early 1800s. It closed after several years of financial hardship. Auctioneer Paul McInnis said the property was sold to a local investor.

The store is believed to be one of the oldest continually operated general stores in America. There’s also a gift shop and a 1950s-style ice cream shop on the property, along with space formerly used as an art studio and apartment. The assessed real estate value was listed at $326,400.

The store’s owners had said the extended closure of the nearby Bath-Haverhill Covered Bridge for repairs contributed to their financial problems. The bridge, believed to be the oldest covered bridge in the state, has since reopened.

Giant lizard pet, anyone?

Animal lovers John Robinson, 60, and his wife Pauline, 57, can regularly be seen taking a stroll with giant reptile ‘Bow’ on the streets of Loughborough, the UK.

They take the 17lb, 4ft-long monitor lizard to the local park and down the shops before returning home where he likes to curl up on the sofa or by the fire to watch TV.

Incredibly, the one-year-old Savannah Bosc Monitor lizard even likes to be cuddled by John who has to wear two jumpers because his claws are half-an-inch long.

Bow lives in a £400 custom built eight-foot-long vivarium but is fully toilet trained and often left to roam around the Robinson’s house and garden. But the couple have to constantly reassure worried dog owners that their pets are perfectly safe — because Bow is ‘well fed’ on a diet of mice and locusts.

According to both John and Pauline, Bow has a lovely nature and is like a big baby to them.

“You just have to spend time with them, now he is just like one of the family,” said Pauline.
