LAHORE: Nicole Guihot, first secretary of Australian High Commission in Pakistan, has expressed hope that Pakistan hockey will regain its lost prestige.

While talking to reporters after watching a women’s hockey game at the National Hockey Stadium on Wednesday, Guihot said she remained optimistic that the sport will bring laurels to Pakistan, who once were regarded as the powerhouse of hockey.

The Australian diplomat said that Hockey Australia has assured the Pakistan Hockey Federation PHF) of extending support to revive Pakistan’s declining fortunes.

The areas of cooperation would include coaching and umpiring.

Former Olympian and PHF secretary Shahbaz Ahmed and Tanzeela Cheema thanked Guihot for taking keen interest in Pakistan hockey and visiting the National Hockey Stadium.

During his conversation with the official Shahbaz recalled his memories of Australia, especially those of his finest hour when he led Pakistan to victory at the 1994 World Cup in Sydney.

Earlier Guihot was received by Shahbaz and Tanzeela, who is secretary of PHF women’s wing.
