BAHAWALPUR: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Zardari Bhutto donated Rs10 million to the Bahawalpur High Court Bar Association.

Former federal minister Farooq H Naek, on behalf of the PPP chairman, handed over the cheque to bar association president Nawazish Ali Pirzada in a function at Nawab Sadiq Hall of the bar.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Naek said the cheque was fulfillment of the promise Bilawal had made with Mr Pirzada during a visit to his residence in Bahawalpur.

He said he was committed to the supremacy of law and the democracy just like all the lawyers.

He referred to the demand of Bahawalpur High Court Bar Association president and assured him if he got elected as president of the Supreme Court Bar Association in October, he would work for demand of Bahawalpur province.

During his address, Mr Pirzada said that during his visit, the PPP chief had promised to donate Rs10m to the bar for the welfare of lawyers and the bar’s library will be named after the slain PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Naek said there was no PPP move for any new National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) over Panama Leaks issue with the Pakistan Muslim league-Nawaz government.

He said the change in the Sindh government was aimed at bringing improvement in governance.
