RAHIM YAR KHAN: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of an alleged torture cell being operated in Satellite Town after a news channel aired on Thursday a video of a man torturing some people at his outhouse.

The video went viral but it later transpired that the incident took place a few years ago.

The suspect is alleged to be a ruling party supporter who became a leader of the party’s Youth Wing after 2007.

Some residents of Satellite Town alleged that the suspect was involved in hooliganism in the area and he himself claimed to have blessings of influential people.

There were 12 cases of kidnap, land grabbing and torture against him and he had also occupied the house of a family which had to shift to Islamabad after threats of murder, it was further alleged.

The PML-N district president told this correspondent that the suspect was an old member of the Youth Wing and is now close to some influential figures in the party.

Regional Police Officer Ehsan Sadiq said the incident was not in his knowledge but police would take action if someone is found involved in any illegal activity.

Senior Superintendant of Police Investigation Irfan Samoon called three reporters of a news channel in his office and said police could take action against anybody only in case of a complaint.

According to a handout, the chief minister directed District Police Officer Zeeshan Asghar to investigate the case.
