KARACHI: Two alleged robbers were shot dead by a citizen when they tried to loot him in Nazimabad No1 late on Sunday evening, the Rizvia Society police said.

The two suspects riding a motorbike intercepted a family travelling in a car in Urdu Bazaar with the intention of robbery. However, the car owner, who had a pistol, opened fire on them, said Central SSP Investigation Arab Mahar.

One suspect died on the spot while the other succumbed to his wounds during treatment at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Their identity could not be ascertained immediately.

The senior police officer added that the citizen also escaped from the scene by the time the police arrived there. However, quoting witnesses, the Central SSP for investigation said the killed men were ‘robbers’. The officer said they were investigating the case.

Mugger killed in ‘encounter’

Police on Sunday evening claimed to have killed a suspected mugger in an encounter in the Sachal area.

They said that two men were allegedly looting people in Sadaf Society off the Superhighway when a police patrol reached there. On seeing the police, the suspects resorted to firing in their bid to escape, causing injuries to a policeman, said Sachal SHO Kamal Laskani. The police returned fire and one unknown suspect got killed while his accomplice escaped, he added.

‘Hitman involved in eight murders held’

The Pakistan Bazaar police on Sunday claimed to have arrested an alleged hitman involved in eight murder cases took place mostly in Orangi Town.

The police arrested the suspect identified as Nadeem Malik, alias Nadeem Babay, in Orangi Town.

“He belongs to a political party and is wanted in eight murder cases,” claimed Akhtar Farooq, SSP Investigation West. He was also involved in extortion cases, he added.
