After a 330-run drubbing by Alastair Cook-led England, Pakistan have adjusted their plans for the English Test skipper and Joe Root ahead of Wednesday's contest at Edgbaston, the touring side's coach Mickey Arthur has said, adding he considers the duo as the backbone of England's batting.
Root scored 254 and an unbeaten 71 while Cook made 105 and 76 not out as Pakistan were beaten by 330 runs on the fourth day of the second Test at Old Trafford last week to level the four-match series at 1-1.
“We had a look at Cook and Root again,” Arthur told British media. “We analysed our plans. We see them as a fundamental to England's batting.
“If we can get into them with the new ball we've got a real good chance.”
While Root and Cook have been in prime form with the bat, Alex Hales, James Vince and Gary Balance have failed to shine for the hosts, who lost the opening test at Lord's.
“They are all quality players,” Arthur added. “But they clearly know that when they walk out they are playing for their Test places, so that provides another level of pressure.
“I'm not discounting Hales, but clearly Cook and Root are the beacon of England's batting at the moment.”

Basic error with the plan! Targeting players rather than the conditions and own strengths. Mr. Arthur would better have analyzed why his batsmen are not scoring while Cook and Root are scoring.

Hopefully Team Pakistan will rally back and win the third test. This time we will see batting clicking well. Bowlers will also do good job. I have a feeling Team Pakistan will win.

I think issue is that they have all the left hand fast bowling attack and Wahab Riaz can not swing the new ball and if it is lush green out field then he can not get the reverse swing as well.
It is better to get may be one of the right hand fast bowlers in place of Wahab Riaz,
Secondly Hafeez, Shan Masood, azhar ali and younis khan are the walking wickets. Azhar Ali might do well but there no hope from Hafeez, Shan Masood and Younis Khan in english conditions so it is better to give someone else a chance as they will keep on failing again and again.

The second test was abysmal for many reasons: 1) Our batting was shoddy throughout the lineup, 2) Our world-class spinner was constrained heavily by the batsmen and 3) which is the most important in my opinion, our pacers lacked any sort of tight line. Amir should be targeting the stumps, which he didn't do and Rahat should be swinging it, which he also didn't do.

The morals of England team are very high after the 330 run win, Pakistan will have to do something very special to win the third test...not that they cannot do it, they can if they stay focused ball to ball and stick to the game plan...

Micky Arthur does get ahead of himself and provides extr motivation to the opposition players by naming and targeting them and that after losing a test match badly as Pakistan did. He ends up rubbing, opponents and his own players, the wrong way around - infamously getting Australian team to sit an exams for example. He needs to concentrate on his players and let them speak big on the pitch.

next match, they should open with haris sohial. Sohaib maqsood at one down and then misbah and fawad alam.
That will bring lot of stability and they can easily win this match. Also we have great spinner Saeed Ajmal.
Shane Warn is great fan of him.

I think Pakistan need to delete defeat from their system as it has never happened. Our test team is better team just because we lost one test and people started demoralizing them. I am sure next match they will be action with big win. Go Green Go.

The team has many weaknesses. Batting is the weakest. Replace Hafeez, Shan and Younus maybe with players from Pakistan A and you might get a decent score. Regarding dropping catches you can not do much as this is our inherent defect.

Our Top order batsmen are sub par subcontinent pitch players that have no skills to play on green and bouncy tracks. Infact they don't even qualify to play county cricket as no county wants to sign them on . Replace the top 4 top order batsmen and bring people who have more experience playing on English conditions and country cricket over the years and you will see results.

The players you have named and selected for the various spots are not even members of the touring team!! I agree that Fawad Alam should have been selected in the first place. Harris has been injured for some time and to boot he is NOT an opener but a middle order batsman
Saeed Ajamal’s performance and effectiveness has been reduced to a club level at best after his changed action. You just to have look at his performances in “A” level and first class matches
For your information, Shane Warne was a great fan o Saeed Ajmal in his hey days and also is a great admirer of Yasir Shah
You also seem to suggest to drop Yunis Khan. He is an asset and just a couple of bad performances cannot take away from hi class and usefulness to team. I hope, nay am confident that he will bounce back and make significant contributions

Pakistan's chances remain very thin till the batsmen raise their hands and perform. History tells us that these are the perfect settings for young batsmen to perform and declare themselves on the world scene. We have seen Ganguly, Dravid, Virat etc forcing the world to take notice in these kind of away series. Unfortunately, Shaan, Azhar, etc have not shown any preparation or class. With Younus beginning to hop strangely at this late stage of his career and throwing his right leg up in the air on every ball, only Misbah and Asad are left to do the job which has proved to be insufficient till now.

pakistani bowler,s fail to deliver the ball on goood length Area. they are well experienced but why they are repeating their weakness point against their home wicket,s. do not affair jimi anderson just stop the ball on merit and give tough time by cheeky shorts.younis and azhar should perform otherwise result will repeat like olford.
