PESHAWAR: A private school teacher meted out a harsh physical punishment on minor students for coming to school late in the Drosh area of Chitral district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The teacher, identified as Inamul Kabir, was soon arrested after the video was picked up by the mainstream media.
A case under the Child Protection Act has been registered against the teacher. The provincial education minister has also taken notice of the incident.
A video of the chilling incident went viral on social media, as what appears to be a secret mobile phone camera films the teacher indiscriminately beating a group of students in the school ground with a wooden stick.
In the 1 minute 36 seconds clip recorded through mobile, the school teacher was torturing students aged between eight to 10 years.
In the video, the students continue to cry and attempt to run away but the teacher does not stop the beatings.
In May 2013, a teacher of City District Government School Fateh Garh was arrested for torturing a Grade III student.
The National Assembly in 2013 unanimously adopted a bill providing up to one-year imprisonment and up to Rs 50,000 penalty for the person found guilty of inflicting corporal punishment on children.
The bill was aimed at protecting dignity of the children as human rights.

It is nothing new here my teachers used to beat me when i was of his age same way.There was always so much pressure but somehow i dealt with it.

This weird guy should be treated the same way, I can correlate with the agony of the students. There were some crackpot teachers that apparently were frustrated from their lives in St. Patrick's High School Karachi and gave the students more or less the same treatment. Looking back I now feel it might leave scars on the child's memory, parents should always confront the school management and side with their kids always when there is manhandling involved.
This frustrated guy did not even spare girls, punish him to the max.

As a student of perhaps sixth or seventh I was severely beaten by one of my class teachers that left blue marks on my body. My Father reported the matter to Police. Teacher was arrested Headmaster was severely warned.This teacher was released only after he asked to be forgiven and losing the job. This was Pakistan of 50s. The only glorious period of Pakistan.

It reminds me when I was going into a public school forty years back. There were few teachers and monitors famous punishing students like this. This guy must be sick. May be having blood pressure or temper problem. Should be dismissed from job immediately.

Every third child in public schools in Pakistan has gone through the same cruelty and yet the government has never took them seriously until just recently a few steps were taken. The owner and the principal should be locked up and ban them from this noble job. My wife gets occasionally severe headache due to the unnecessary banging of her head with another student by their teacher when she was in 4th grade. This male teacher enjoying doing so to impress female teachers. He was beaten up and abused by parents and eventually sacked.

Beating in schools should be completely banned, not even a slap should be allowed. In many countries nowadays, the parents are also not allowed to beat their own children. This is against law.

Teacher MUST be punished (jailed for a period of time) so it would send a clear message to other 'Student-Beaters' so teachers would learn 'What not to do' when teaching students. Teachers have many other options to rehabilitate trouble-making children. Such as on-one talk, coaching, advising, complaints to teachers, review of poor performance or mischieve with parents or guardians, even expel them from school after three warning. But 'beating up' a child of any age is a clear no-no.

Reminds me of my school days at the Islamabad College for Boys (ICB). Sadly the most inhuman teachers were those of Islamic Studies. Such teachers and the schools should be penalized. Poor children!

In my village one of my neighbor bought a goat and tied in front yard and the goat was making a lot of noise. His eight year old school going son asked his father why the goat is making so much noise. The father replied that may be the goat has got the idea that we are going slaughter her next week. The child asked "what the goat might have done if she had to go to school every day".
These types of teachers make school a hell for young kids.

I still remember in 7th class our female teacher beat one of our female class fellow with sticks and then hit her head on wall and she became fainted. It's good that now we have media and laws. This person should be given maximum punishment as he is traumatising these innocent soles for all of their lives.

I recall one brute teacher got so mad on a student in class VI that he went behind the bench and kicked the poor 11 year old with a flying kick causing severe pain for weeks. Another macho teacher did not like the science answer in class IX or Class X back than, asked the student to come to front of class room and slapped the student with full force on side of the face. Poor student suffered some kind of hearing hearing loss or pain for a long long time. Another one has to do when there was a strike. All secondary school students brought back to their class room and heat master personally awarded a beating on each student's hand going to all the class rooms. But times have changed, hopefully teachers are much wiser and its time all student-beaters should grow up.

This nothing new to teachers in Pakistan. This is the issue common in all Schools, and NO ONE even realizes that it is not a right thing to do.
We use to have the same treatment in a very reputed School in Clifton and Muslimabad Karachi. Yes, St. Peter's High School with Sir Simon Dilemma (may God have his sole rest in Peace), who use to always wield a cane.
We thought at our age it was okay. But today realize that this is not the right approach. Unfortunately, this is common practice among many Pakistani parents also to deal with there kids in such a fashion.

@CANPAK, I agree. Teachers training must be compulsory how to handle and provide education to children and how to tackle different childs. Before hiring any teacher’s they must go with tough screening. Any teachers who behave inhumanly and beats child’s should be penalized. I was also a victim of that society where it is common to beat children. Teachers must know that beating child leaves scars on child’s memory forever.

I remember the physical and mental torture inflicted upon me by my school teachers.
Some of them were even more harsh as I was a Urdu speaker at their mercy. The years were post independence of Bangladesh. (1971-1981)

What about those schools whose teachers go unnoticed for beating students, in my opinion there should be strict note of conduct on behalf of teachers and students must be fully informed that if any student is punished or harassed can inform the administration of the institution and could freely report such incidents without FEAR

My teachers also used to beat me worst than that and it really left bad taste on me for teachers one year jail term is not enough I couldn't sleep all night after watching this video may be cause I am a father now and can relate with those kids I am glad my kids go to school in Canada.

Such elements in education department making things worse. He should be put accountable for his act. And should not be spared so that next time he must remember his punishment. Gone are the days when honourable teachers used pedogogy notions in order to pursue their students to be in time.I agree with one of the responses that he is a frustrated man and try to evacuate his anxiety for doing so. Well I am in Drosh at the moment so we will make sure this guy is fined and dismissed. Teaching is for learning not as an act of war -the kids in Chitral are very clever and are very eager to learn, leaving for school on foot early in the morning.

There is nothing new, this is a common practice in all rural areas of Pakistan but the new thing is the video evidence, the positive use of social media against the brutal act, we all should raise voice against this act. Our teachers have faith in corporal punishment so no law can stop them to do so unless we cannot change the mentality of those mindset by educating them.

@Ali Just because you had to deal with trouble situation doesnt mean that it was and should be acceptable. Beating children has terrible repercussions for their over all emotional well being. Pakistan is messed up for many reasons, one of them is that we condone physical violence against each other whether they are children or adults.
