LAHORE: Eleven teams are taking part in the 29th National Women’s Hockey Championship which starts at the Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium on Aug 5.

The participating teams are defending champions Wapda, last-time runners-up Pakistan Railways, Army, HEC, Punjab Colours, Punjab Whites, Sindh Colo­urs, Sindh Whites, Khy­ber Pakhtunkhwa, Baloc­h­istan and Islamabad. The final will be played on Aug 12.

The event would also serve as trials for the next assignment of the national team in shape of the Women’s Asian Hockey Federation Cup to be staged in Bangkok from Oct 1 to 9.

The selection committee, comprising Olympians Saleem Sherwani and Muss­adiq Hussain and a woman representative Chand Parveen, would select probables for the camp.

Saeed Khan and Mohammad Usman, who have been named national women team manager and coach, respectively, will be in Islamabad to personally watch the performances of the girls.
