GUJRAT: At least 500 new classrooms will be constructed in public sector schools of the Gujrat district during the current fiscal year as priority will be given to those schools where the number of students is higher and additional classrooms are required.
This was stated by DCO Liaquat Ali Chatha while chairing a meeting of the district coordination committee with the ruling PML-N lawmakers and officials of different departments of the district government among the participants.
The EDO (Education) was directed to consult with the parliamentarians for the construction of classrooms in their respective areas.
The meeting also decided to get the development projects of up to Rs0.5 million in any public sector school through school councils so that funds could be utilized transparently as well as keeping in view the requirements of the schools concerned.
The participants were told that 19 projects had been approved in the provincial annual development programme of the Gujrat district for the current fiscal year as Rs1,645 million had been allocated for these projects which included nine schemes for schools, four each for water supply and roads and one each for colleges, special education and the local government.
At least 64 schemes proposed by MPAs belonging to the Gujrat district have been completed during the last fiscal year with a sum of Rs25 million.
While the phase one of the Khadim-i-Punjab Rural Road Programme was completed and the funds released for the second phase had also been spent, the participants were briefed.
