KARACHI: Pakistan on Tuesday announced its squad for One-Day International (ODI) contests against Ireland and England during the ongoing tour of the British Isles.
Right-arm fast-bowler Umar Gul makes a comeback after a hiatus of two years, with selectors preferring him over Mohammad Irfan on the basis of better fitness and fielding skills.
Gul last featured in an ODI during Pakistan's tour of Bangladesh in 2015.
Left-handed batsman Sami Aslam, who impressed with his profound technique during the third Test at Edgbaton against England, has also been named in the squad.

Sharjeel Khan also returns to the national side after two years on the back of a staggering average of 63 runs during the recent List-A contests. The bulky left-handed opener scored 90 and 125 against Sri Lanka 'A' and England Lions, respectively.
Announcing the squad, Pakistan chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq said:
"While picking the squad, the team management and skipper were consulted and all concerned gave their consent in this regard. The team has been selected keeping in mind the conditions and the recent performances of some players in domestic and A Team tours.
"The team is a fine blend of experience and youth and the selectors believe that team will do well."
Pakistan will take on Ireland in two ODIs on August 18 and 20 which will be followed by a five-match series against England.
The 15-member squad for the 50-overs contests against Ireland and England later this month is as follows:
Openers: Azhar Ali (c), Sharjeel Khan, Sami Aslam
Middle Order: Mohammad Hafeez, Baber Azam, Shoaib Malik
Wicket Keeper: Sarfraz Ahmad and Mohammad Rizwan
Fast Bowlers: Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz, Hasan Ali, Umer Gul
Spinners: Immad Wasim, Yasir Shah, Mohammad Nawaz

Actually Rizwan is good enough to be in the team as a batsman alone.Both Sarfaraz and Rizwan can play in same 11 with Rizwan but i know whats going to happen..they will play Hafeez in the team with Rizwan sidelined for whole series...Can't understand why Hafeez is even required in any format now...I hope Aslam gets a game too.....the 11 is going to be...Azhar,Aslam/Sharjeel,Hafeez,Azam,Malik,Sarfaraz,Imaad,3 pacers,Yasir...But i feel under these conditions they are missing a pace bowling all rounder at 7

those who are asking about fawad alam, he cant even hit the ball outside 30 yard circle. he is best for test cricket though. hafeez and shoaib should be droped and haris sohail with another all rounder should be picked.

It is pretty obvious that inzimam is one of the worst selectors of all time. How could someone select mohammad hafeez and shoaib malik by considering their recent past performances.
A lay man can say that by looking at the team that it will be a whitewash. How could inzimam cant c that.. Y are they playing with the emotions of pak cricket fans. Why are they destroying pak cricket.

What is the justification for keeping Hafeez. Why Ahmed Shehzad is being ignored, if at all Hafeez is selected then then it should for one match only, based on performance the next button should be pressed for him. Shoaib Malik may maynot click one match test should also be applicable on him

Foreign coaches have become normal in almost all teams. Why not try foreign expert as the Chief Selector, especially in the selection of limited over teams. The foreign coach can watch some of the limited over tournaments and make his decision.

Inzi has failed as a selector. He will have to leave the post very soon. Hopefully just after England series.
What is Hafeez doing in the ODI team. This guys has not consistently perform in the past 10 years. Why does Inzi think he can do now?
Why not give a new younger a chance, weather he fails or not, does not matter. What are you achieving with Hafeez and Malik - future stars!!
You suppose to build a team for the next world cup. Hafeez and Mailk will not be around, unless of course our selectors think otherwise.
Even Gul is a waste of time.
What was the point of sending A team to UK. There were some good players in the A team. They were playing in the UK and had settled with the conditions etc.
England are a very strong ODI team with batting line up right down to 10-11 positions. Pakistan have nothing to loose they are pretty much at the bottom of the rankings. Why not try some fresh faces and build a team.

Hafeez have been given green signal to give disastrous start in 4th test as well. He is already in ODI squad and Inshallah will be in T20 squad. So in all the remaining matches will start each inning with one down before the end of first over of each match. He had taken stand on "principles" against Aamir's comeback . Under these principles he is destroying careers of so many youngsters.

The bowling attack constitutes four fast bowlers and three spinners. This 4+3 combination is ideal for only sub continental conditions and not in England. It should have been 5+2 to address any eventuality of one of the fast bowlers getting injured.

Middle order is very weak. Umar Akmal should take in middle order. First bowling attack is also weak. Only Aamir is the good bowler and others are high economic rates .

No place for Hafeez, Malik and wahab riaz.. Even sharjeel is only good for t20.. No merit, poor selection. I was expecting for Saud Shakeel, Fakhar And Junaid Khans selection.. I still wonder why did they drop Shahzad and Akmal.. But at least have a worthy replacements. I predict complete whitewash to us.. Even from Irland. And expect inzi to quit as it's not a right job for him.. Mohsin Hassan was best selector in last some time. I would urge board to bring him back.

Third class team selection. You will see same bad result. We need haris Sohail fawad Alam and Mohammed Irfan. Sarfraz should be captain. I don't know what was criteria for selection of Gul and hafiz.

I wish there was some democracy in cricket affairs too and public had some say in it. If that was so Shaharyar Khan and Inzamam (I respect him a lot as a batsman) would not be involved. They don't seem to understand the requirement. They keep insisting with someone as useless as Hafeez. Keep ignoring talents like Fawad and Haris. They are not proactive and select these teams with poor combination and players and hope that they would miraculously perform one day.
The job of a selection committee is to go around the country, hunt for the new talent, identify the potential in a new and budding cricketer and bring them into limelight. To select 15 out of obvious 25, any child can do.

@abid akbar Let's be realistic, he is from Karachi- period. Since 2000 only a dozen new caps have been given from Karachi and they are dropped after one or two games or after one failure. In comparison over 100 new test caps were given to players from Punjab and given plenty of chances even if they fail.
This is all in the record books of cricinfo. Go check.
