DADU: Assailants, said to be criminals, caught hold of a policeman posted in Sehwan to head the ‘15 Helpline’, on Tuesday and shot him dead.

According to Jamsho DSP retired Captain Tariq Walayat, ASI Niaz Panhwar had tried to arrest a suspect, Ghulam Hussain Rind, but the latter managed to escape a few days ago. On Tuesday, the suspect along with his four associates including Atta Mohammed Rind, waylaid ASI Panhwar while he was patrolling the streets of Sehwan, the DSP said, adding that the assailants caught hold of the ASI, shot him and rode away on their motorcycles.

The ASI was rushed to the Sehwan Taluka Hospital by his colleagues but he succumbed to his wounds during treatment. A post-mortem examination was performed at the hospital before the body was sent to Phulji Station town for burial.

A murder FIR was registered against Ghulam Hussain, Atta Mohammad Rind and their three associates. Later, three of the suspects were arrested a hunt was launched for Ghulam Hussain Rind.
