MUZAFFARABAD: A newly-wed couple was shot dead by the bride’s uncle in Rawalakot district of Azad Kashmir on Wednesday, it has been learnt.
The incident happened in Mohra Kotera area of Rawalakot district where 19-year-old Aliza and her husband Owais were allegedly killed by suspect Niaz Khan, said City police station SHO Aijaz.
The couple, who reportedly got married four days ago, was living in a rented house where Niaz attacked and opened fire on the couple, police said.
The owner of the house was the first to arrive at the scene who subsequently informed police about the incident, but by then Niaz had fled the crime scene.
Police, however, has arrested four suspected accomplices of Niaz while raids are being carried out to arrest the prime suspect.
The couple had reportedly married against the will of their family on which the bride’s uncle was very upset, the police official said.
The families of victims staged protest on Rawalakot Muzaffarabad Road and blocked the main highway by placing the bodies on the road.
They vowed to continue the protest till the arrest of culprits, however, the district officials persuaded them to call off their protest by giving them assurances that the suspects will soon be arrested — to which they agreed.

If the uncle believed he was doing good by killing why did he ran away like a coward? He should go to the police and hand himself in and let the law of the land take its course.

Actually our religion allows wedding as per wish, but our tradition does not, especially to the young girls, so we should accept our tradition to avoid unwanted honour killing, and accept that marriage of young girls by on their own wish is disgraceful, undigestable and unbearable act.

Honour killing :-
Actually our religion allows wedding as per wish, but our tradition does not, especially to the young girls, until parents are not forcing any girl to get marry to a undesirable person, one should accept and respect the tradition to avoid unwanted honour killing, and accept that marriage of young girls by their own wish is disgraceful, indigestible and unbearable act.

Very sad. Usually in such shameful crimes, parents have little to do but remorse over it. Parents usually do not do these kinds of things. The most likely culprits are Uncles (Chacha, Mamu) or brother or other relatives of the girl who wanted her to marry within the family clan. The girls have absolutely no say in who they want to marry, due to tradition. The religion has nothing to do with it. Religion allows the person male or female the right to choose one's spouse and reject if the person they don't like. Its the thousands of years old tradition stemming from age old illiterate ways with no logic or sense.

@Justwasif - Instead of saying own choice of marriage is "disgraceful, undigestable and unbearable act", the families can simply beak off their ties with such couples, if they so wish. Having an otherwise miserable unwanted marriage or killing is not the answer.

Government should add it's name to the case as with Qandeel Baloch. If these criminals aren't punished for their crimes, people will continue to murder their relatives. Also, this whole culture of killing people for love marriage is backwards.

The conservative people even after six decades can't change their minds and knowingly do not know that the law permits an adult to get married with the opposite sex according to one wishes and choice.
Every day reports of killing young couple are published in the newspapers but it seems that society do not want to move on this particular issue.
They make the love marriage issue as their prestige and accuse the newly married couples as if they have committed sins.
As last resort and to take revenge from the couple the conservative people finally kill the couple to save their honour.

This another very STRANGE killing of NO honour!
The newly-wed couple's parents are protesting the killing! Then there was Qandee'Baloch's brother --the killer-- but Qandeel's father wants the brother (the killer) to be executed for her murder!
Did the uncle kill for revenge for being refused her hand?
Or, how many criminally mentally ill people are there?

@Justwasif sir, our tradition doesnot allows women to go for work, even woman cannot go out for shopping, in large parts of Pakistan, even basic right of education has not been given to women's. Therefore, the such inhuman should be discouraged.

Continue to marry within the families, such as cousin marriages is not healthy for the offspring. The chances of gene diversity is reduced, moreover the risk of knocking some vital genetic information that may help modulate behaviours in certain novel challenges for an organism, call it intelligence could be lost. Need no more proof, look at the UNCLE who killed !

Murdering someone because he or she takes charge of his/her life is appalling and should be made illegal. Just arresting suspects is not enough to deter such deranged people from committing these barbaric acts in the first place. There are far too many such incidents. As a matter of fact, even one such story is one too many. There really needs to be a zero tolerance policy that must be firmly adhered to. This type of mentality is detremental to the country's progress.
There is something very seriously wrong if this is considered normal civilised behaviour in a country with thousands of years of history.

@Abdul Rehman Gun control is fine, but guns dont kill people by themselves. You need deranged person pulling the trigger. Best is to start educating the masses, bringing in really tough laws to prevent such horrors. Also, start educating young kids against such things so the future is secure. Honour killings are like a sickness which is best cured by identifying the symptoms and coming up with a vaccine rather than waiting for the sickness to spread and then trying to treat it with medicines.
