GUJRAT: Jhelum police have reportedly sought extradition from UK, of the mother and sister of Samia Shahid, a British national of Pakistani origin who allegedly became a victim of honour killing here.

Official sources say that Jhelum police have written a letter asking interior ministry to approach the Interpol for extradition of the two suspects from UK.

The sources say the police have also not been provided the travel history of the suspects -- Imtiaz Bibi and Madiha Shahid -- who as per the family’s claim and initial findings of Mangla police, arrived in Pakistan after death of Ms Shahid on July 20 and returned to UK after attending her funeral rites.

The three other suspects in the case -- Chaudhry Shahid, Chaudhry Shakil and Mobeen -- are said to be in police custody. However, the local police deny the claim.

The forensic and postmortem examination reports have already confirmed that Ms Shahid died of unnatural causes. Her father had initially alleged that she died of heart attack but later changed his statement and claimed she had committed suicide.

However, a police investigation team headed by DIG Abu Baker Khuda Bakhsh has been collecting more evidence in the case.

The next hearing of the case in the court of Jhelum additional district and sessions judge is Aug 13.
