ISLAMABAD: Wapda on Friday retained title of the National Women’s Hockey Champion defeating Pakistan Railways here at the Naseer Bunda Hokey Stadium.

Wapda played aggressive game throughout the match and registered an easy 3-1victory against their rivals with their Afsha Noreen who played a leading role in the victory of her team scoring two goals While Ambreen Arshad added one goal for her team.

In fourth minute of the first quarter, Afsha scored first goal for Wapda which was equalized in third quarter when Pakistan Railways’ striker Kalsoom Munir netted a goal. However, a few minutes later Ambreen added another goal for Wapda.

In the fourth quarter, Afsha scored another goal for her team, ensuring an easy 3-1 victory for her team.

The only goal for Pakistan Railways was struck by their striker Kalsoom who remained instrumental throughout the tournament and adjudged the best striker by scoring 24 goals in the tournament.

Whereas Army’s Shahida Raza was declared the best player of the championship and Wapda’s Rizwana Yasmeen was adjudged as the best goalkeeper of the tournament.

Ambassadors of Portugal, Australia and Germany witnessed the final and appreciated the performance of both teams.

Pakistan Hockey Federation president Khalid Sajjad Khokar, PHF secretary Shahbaz Ahmed senior, women wing secretary Tanzeela Amir Cheema and other women officials were also present on the occasion.

Earlier, Army outclassed Punjab Colour 3-0 for the third position match. Army’s Saira Khanam, Sanaullah Dita and Sahail Malik scored goals for their team.
