SWABI: An additional SHO was shot dead by assailants on a motorcycle while three police personnel were injured in an attack on a police station in Swabi on Monday.

Police officials said SHO Saeedul Ibrar was waiting on a road in Razaar tehsil for a coach to Nowshera where he had to go to perform his duty when men on a motorcycle opened fire on him and fled. He was rushed to Peshawar’s Lady Reading Hospital, where he died during treatment.

The Counter-Terrorism Department of Mardan police has registered a case against unidentified attackers and started investigation.

The officials said the incident took place 12 days after an encounter between police and suspected terrorists in an area on the Swabi-Buner border. A policeman and a terrorist were killed and two other policemen injured in the encounter.

A day before Indepen­dence Day, police arrested 35 suspected terrorists during a search operation.

Meanwhile, three po­­lice personnel, including an SHO, suffered injuries when a group of militants stormed the Zaida police station and opened fire on Monday night.

The injured constables and SHO Azhar were taken to the Bacha Khan Medical Complex in Shahmansur.

Soon after the attack, police launched a search operation in the area. According to reports, an encounter between police and militants continued till late in the night.
