LARKANA: Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah, chief of Sindh United Party, has accused Asif Ali Zardari of having occupied all municipal institutions and hundreds of towns and municipal committees in the province to monopolize huge funds for development.

Talking to journalists and workers at a camp organised by his party at Jinnahbagh gate here on Wednesday to run the party’s membership drive, Mr Shah said that billions of rupees allocated for the Larkana package were already siphoned off in the largest financial robbery in the province. The SUP rejected corruption and stood for development, he said.

He termed change of chief minister in Sindh cosmetic and called for change of system.

Only sincere, honest and farsighted leadership could lead Sindh out of chaos and to progress and prosperity, he said.

He said the impression about urban and rural divide had died down and invited all nationalists to join his party and advised them to shun policy of violence as G.M Syed believed in non-violence and it is an established fact that violence begets violence. He rejected the allegation that nationalists were opportunists.

Earlier, Jalal Shah accompanied by Zain Shah, Pir Khalil Jan Sarhandi, Dr Dodo Maheri, Idrees Chandio, Roshan Buriro, Roshan Kalhoro and other party leaders visited Garilo, Dokri in connection with the party’s membership campaign, before coming to Jinnahbagh.

Jalal calls on Mumtaz Bhutto

Mr Shah accompanied by SUP central leaders called on Sardar Mumtaz Ali Bhutto, chief of Sindh National Front in Mirpur Bhutto on Tuesday.

Both the leaders held detailed discussion over the possibility of joint struggle for Sindh’s rights.

Mr Bhutto, though agreed the proposal but said he had just revived his party and a decision in this regard might be taken after discussing it with party members, said sources.

“My first priority is to revive and reorganise SNF then to table the proposal before the central committee members and office-bearers about the joint struggle,” the sources quoted Mr Bhutto as telling Mr Shah.
