ISLAMABAD: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Thursday filed a reference with Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq to disqualify secretary general of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Jahangir Khan Tareen.

PML-N’s Daniyal Aziz, Talal Chaudhry and Maiza Hameed submitted the reference.

The reference alleged that during Pervez Musharaf’s regime, being a federal minister Tareen had received Rs101 million as loan from Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) in the name of Tandlianwala Sugar Mills, which was latter written off in 2005.

“Jahangir Tareen concealed facts while submitting his nomination papers for general elections in 2013 and by-elections in 2015,” the reference stated.

The reference also claimed that the senior PTI leader also hid his assets.

The PML-N leaders said Tareen should be disqualified from his NA seat for “submitting false statements with the ECP and misleading the commission”.

“Tareen doesn’t meet the requirements under article 62 and 63 of the Constitution of Pakistan,” the PML-N lawmakers said in the reference.

Earlier, Tehreek-i-Insaf on Monday had filed a reference against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for his disqualification as Member of the National Assembly in response to a reference filed by PML-N against Imran Khan.

PTI and other parties have also filed petitions with the ECP seeking disqualification of the prime minister and his relatives.

The cases are under review in the ECP. The PM and others respondents have been directed by the commission to submit their responses by September 6.
