GUJRAT: The district administration of Jhelum has targeted to plant over 280,000 saplings in the monsoon tree plantation drive in the district with the coordination of the Forest Department.
At least 150,000 saplings will be planted in the state forests spread over an area of 4,700 acres.
Over 20,000 saplings will be planted in the areas under the jurisdiction of government departments, while the district officer forest has been given the target of planting as many as 100,000 saplings through farmers around their agriculture lands and common citizens.
The briefing about the monsoon tree plantation drive in Jhelum was given by District Coordination Officer Iqbal Hussain Khan while planting a tree in the Akram Shaheed Park to kick off the drive.
He said no effort would be spared to make the tree plantation drive successful and achieve the target.
The DCO said all government departments had been instructed to ensure plantation of maximum trees in the areas under their jurisdiction.
He said the Education Department had been directed to create awareness among students about planting trees.
