GUJRAT: Jhelum District Election Commissioner Khursheed Alam on Monday issued show-cause notices to MNA Hamza Shahbaz and PML-N candidate for NA-63 by-election in Jhelum Nawabzada Matloob Mehdi over alleged violation of code of conduct.

Despite a ban on parliamentarians visiting a constituency or running election campaign for their candidates contesting the by-polls, Hamza arrived in Pind Dadan Khan on Monday and held a meeting with ruling party elected representatives from the constituency. Also head of the Punjab government’s public affairs committee, Hamza talked to the media during his visit, which was forbidden.

Alam, also the returning officer of NA-63, asked the PML-N leader to explain why he visited the constituency and addressed media in connection with the polls campaign.

As part of the polls drive, Hamza addressed union council chairmen, vice chairmen and councillors in Chak Shadi village of Pind Dadan Khan tehsil of Jhelum.
