Llama dies at zoo

LAHORE: The sole llama at the Lahore Zoo died at the age of 17 years.

The body of the animal was sent to the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences for postmortem to ascertain the cause of death.

According to officials, the llama was brought to the zoo in 2006 when it was six years old. The average age of a llama is 15 to 18 years.

Zoo Director Shafqat Ali claimed the llama died on Saturday while the actual cause of its death would be determined after its postmortem.

A llama has its origins in South America and belongs to the family of camels and alpacas.
