KOHAT: A bull race was held here on Monday in connection with the Independence Day celebrations. The race was won by a pair from Turkey Ismail Khel area of Frontier Region of Kohat.
The festival organised by the livestock department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was participated by bull pairs from southern KP, Punjab and FR Kohat.
The owners of the winning pair, Iqbal Khan and Zabaullah, were given cash prize of Rs25,000 by MNA Sheharyar Afridi who was the chief guest on the occasion.
Mr Afridi said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government would hold national mega cattle festival in Kohat soon.
BAN LIFTED: District nazim Maulana Niaz Mohammad on Monday ordered an end to the traffic red-zone from Peshawar Chowk to Bannu Gate, overriding the orders of the deputy commissioner issued a fortnight ago.
A statement said the district nazim took the decision keeping in view the troubles being faced by transporters and passengers.
The deputy commissioner had, under Section 144 CrPC, declared Peshawar Chowk to Bannu Gate route as traffic red-zone by prohibiting pick and drop of passengers for a period of 30 days. The violators were to be punished under section 188 of PPC.
ARRESTED: Two proclaimed offenders, seven Afghans and 26 suspects were held during a police crackdown on anti-social elements on Monday.
The two POs were arrested in actions along the Orakzai Agency border in Kachai and Marai areas. In Ustarzai and Lachi, police apprehended seven illegally residing Afghans. Twenty suspects were also held and one Kalashnikov, three rifles, six pistols and hundreds of cartridges were recovered from them.
Meanwhile, body of a woman was recovered in Jarma area, which was moved to KDA teaching hospital. The woman belonged to Chitral. Her husband registered FIR in Riaz Shaheed police station against unknown killers.
In Nasrat Khel, a man died when two motorcycles collided. A case was registered in the cantonment police.
