SWABI: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-led government has planned to build an education city here on the land of Sir Sahibzada Khursheed Memorial Government Degree College for Boys, Kotha, sources in the ruling party told this correspondent here on Saturday.

They said that the total land of Kotha boys college was 600 kanals of which 100 kanals were given to the District Model School. The sources said that it had been planned that Swabi Women’s University (SWU), which had been established at the Agriculture Research Centre at Gulu Dheri, would be shifted to the premises of Kotha boys college and the latter (Kotha boys college) to the under-construction government girls degree college, Kotha.

They said that the shifting of girls degree college and SWU to Kotha boys college premises would be a great change because the girls of the university and college would be accommodated at one place.

They said that the District Model School was already there and with some more work an education city in the district would be erected on the land of Kotha boys college.

They said that Kotha Sports Stadium was also under construction for which the government had sanctioned Rs25 million.

However, the sources said that a rivalry between the people of Kotha village and Topi city over the ownership of Kotha girls college and Kotha Sport Stadium might turn serious if it was not resolved at an early stage.

Sources in the revenue department said that the total land of the stadium was 40 kanals and while the nearby girls college spread over 25 kanals. Members of All Neighbourhood Council Ittehad Topi (ANCIT) said that the land of stadium and girls college belonged to Topi and both the projects had been named after Kotha.

Zahir Shah, president of the council, said that the area belonged to Topi people and it should be named as Topi projects.

Other members of ANCIT said that they had brought the issue into the notice of KP Assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar, but he had adopted silence on the issue.

They threatened that if Mr Qaisar failed to meet their demand they would stage a protest demonstration.

However, Kotha people claimed that the land was under their possession and they had given it for the college and stadium.

ARRESTED: The district police arrested five alleged car-lifters and recovered a snatched pick-up (LHO 9852) from their custody here on Saturday.

Officials said that the police chased the vehicle and arrested five people, identified as Siraj Khan, Majid Khan, Bakhtiar Khan, Ali Raza and Aamir Khan, all from Gadoon. They said that a case had been registered against them.
