KHAIRPUR: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah has said that the documents presented by Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) leader Allama Tahirul Qadri are true and if anyone claims them to be fake, he may approach a court of law. “Corruption is badly affecting the country’s economy; Corruption to the tune of billions of rupees has been committed in the country,” he said while speaking to the media at the Khairpur circuit house on Sunday.

Mr Shah said: “We keep saying everywhere that democracy is in danger, but this [Allama Qadri’s allegations] is a threat to the rulers and not democracy,”

The senior PPP leader said that instead of taking to the streets, the PPP opted for a mass contact campaign and public gatherings across the country after Eidul Azha to apprise people of PML-N government’s flawed policies and failures. “People should agree that the PML-N claims of having attained economic stability, contained power loadshedding, brought down electricity tariff and improved common man’s standard of living are all false.

Mr Shah, however, expressed his confidence that neither democracy would derail nor would any harm come to elected houses. He repeated his party’s demand for mid-term elections in the county and curtailment of an elected dispensation’s tenure to four years.

MNA Dr Mahreen Bhutto and other PPP leaders were also present.
