MIANWALI: Police claimed on Sunday to have arrested 94 proclaimed offenders and seized arms in crackdowns during August.
Talking to Dawn, Mianwali DPO Sadiq Ali Gujjar said police nabbed 94 proclaimed offenders, including 38 of A category, 56 of B and three court absconders.
He said 188 people were booked and arrested under arms ordinance. Police recovered from them 10 kalashnikovs, 24 rifles, 120 guns (12 bore), three pistols (30 bore), six revolver, 14 carbines, 912 cartridges and two daggers. He said 57 cases were registered under narcotics act and police recovered 40.63 kg hash, 2 kg heroin and 7,474 bottles of liquor. He said seven gambling dens were smashed and 50 men arrested.
The DPO said owing to the prevailing situation in the country, search operations and patrolling had been enhanced in areas adjacent to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said a number of suspects, including Afghan nationals, were arrested for interrogation and released after identification of their papers.
He said he had visited educational institutions and ordered to beef up security there.
