KOHAT: Acting on the complaints and recommendations of the district and sessions judge and the bar association president, the police have taken extraordinary measures to ensure foolproof security at the district courts.

This was informed at a meeting attended among others by DPO Kohat Mohammad Sohaib Ashraf, Judicial Magistrate (I) Syed Mudassir Shah Tarmezi, district and sessions judge Mohammad Younis Khan and president of district bar association Mohammad Javed Panji.

The meeting was informed that six police pickets had been set up in the vicinity of the district courts, while rapid response force would be deployed to patrol the areas around the premises round the clock.

Similarly, CCTV cameras and walk-through gates have also been installed at all the entrances to the district courts.

Besides, a boundary wall has also been raised, and a ban has been imposed on entry of vehicles other than those of judges and lawyers into the courts’ premises.

On the occasion, the DPO said security to lawyers was top priority of the police and elaborate arrangements had been made for the purpose.

“With a purpose to fully secure the courts in the aftermath of the blast at Mardan courts, it has been decided to make elaborate arrangements at all important places of the district courts,” a statement issued from the DPO office said.

Mr Ashraf said all available resources were being utilised for the purpose. He said more than 50 policemen had been assigned security duties at the courts. He said foot patrolling by security personnel would be started around the courts.

RIVALS RECONCILE: Two rival groups buried the hatchet by turning their enmity into brotherhood thanks to the efforts of the Muhammadzai peace committee on Monday.

The feud had been going on for years, claiming several precious lives. However, after tireless efforts by the peace committee headed by Haji Seth Noor Mohammad Bangash, both the parties took oath on the holy Quran to end rivalry and live like brothers in future.

The development came at a meeting of the committee. The rival groups’ heads Mohammad Zaman and Samiullah alias Sameelo and their accomplices embraced each other.

FISH HATCHLINGS RELEASED IN DAM: District naib nazim Abdur Rashid freed more than 100,000 fish hatchlings in the Tanda Dam on Monday.

Earlier, he was briefed by the in-charge of the Kohat hatchery, Asghar Afridi at a meeting that the dams in the region were a source of famous Rao fish which was considered a delicacy in the region.

Deputy director fisheries Peshawar, Khalid Khan, assistant director fisheries, Bannu, Ilyas Khattak, assistant director fisheries, Kohat Tahir Jameel were also in attendance.

TRANSFORMERS’ REPAIR: District nazim Maulana Niaz Mohammad on Monday asked the Pesco to strictly follow the standard operational procedure in the repair of damaged transformers.

Chairing a meeting at his office, he stressed that timely achievement of any task was not possible without coordinated efforts. He said the people had pinned great hopes on the elected representatives, therefore, any delay in provision of services directly affected nazims’ and councillors’ prestige.

He said the tendering process for repair of transformers and their timely installation should be sped up for providing relief to consumers.
