LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday dismissed an application for temporary permission to exhibit film “Maalik” till announcement of its decision reserved on the petitions against ban on the movie.

Dismissing the application, Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza asked the applicant to wait for the announcement of the reserved decision.

Social activist Abdullah Malik had filed the application through an application in the main case against the ban on the movie.

Justice Mirza had reserved verdict in the case on June 2.

The applicant stated that the Sindh High Court had set aside the ban on the film and allowed its exhibition. He said the Lahore High Court should also allow interim exhibition of the film till announcement of the decision.

INDIAN MOVIES: The LHC on Thursday issued a notice to the federal government and the film censor board on a petition seeking a complete ban on exhibition of Indian movies in Pakistan.

Comedian Iftikhar Thakur had filed the petition through Advocate Ishtiaq Chaudhry.

The petitioner sought the ban in the wake of the recent incidents of Indian atrocities in Kashmir.

He said exhibition of Indian films in Pakistan amounted to rubbing salt into the wounds of the Kashmiri citizens. He asked the court to ban exhibition of the Indian movies.

Justice Shahid Karim issued notices to the respondents for Sept 27.
