ISLAMABAD: Police say they have arrested the father, husband and brother of a woman who was tortured and hanged alongside her alleged boyfriend in a family courtyard in the village of Mian Channu in eastern Punjab.
Local police official Allah Ditta said Khalida Bibi, a married mother-of-three, and her alleged boyfriend, 21-year-old Mohammad Mukhtar, were murdered Thursday in a so-called honour killing in their village.
He said the three arrested relatives confessed to killing Bibi and Mukhtar for having an affair.
Ditta gave no further details.
Hundreds of women are murdered every year in Pakistan, often by their own relatives, for going against their families' wishes in matters of love and marriage.

In case of affairs, divorce is a much better option than murder.

As long as women are treated as commodity of honor rather human beings this will keep on happening no law no accountability can stop it. How can you stop relatives of murdered woman to pardon the father of three kids who have lost their mother. A society where no religion no law is important than the egos and personal justice. Almighty may have mercy on the departed souls and on us

Go for divorce instead of murder in such cases. If you have murderer a woman, remember she left died with your name as a husband. I also condemn the act of such women who instead of demanding divorce from their husbands keep affairs with other men

There wouldn't remain even a single man on this planet if woman and girls start killing them in the name of Honour Killing.. Please think before going to take such harsh step - she is a living thing... she do have a heart, she even breathe the same as you do... If you think your women aren't in your control, give them that love and protection the other person (whom she has affair) is offering her.. Beating and hanging her isn't the solution at all

Sixer from Chakwal: In Pakistani society and specially rural places, its not easy for women to ask for divorce. It will be assumed she is going for another marriage in which case the husband family will be furious because of their family honor and will not give divorce nor let her do Khula unless women family is much stronger. But in majority cases woman is dead before she can take any steps to even think about getting a divorce.

Has ever a man been killed for such affairs?? It's a sheer brutality, heinous crime and ramifications of masculine and patriarchal society where men are in authority over women in all aspects of society.

Sexuality is a complex issue. Without quality education in the society, the previous,
rather primitive norms are difficult to eradicate from the society.
However, it is good to know that law is taking its course in this incident.

@Feroz correct. But we have to focus on changing the mindset of men and allow womenfolk to take a decision about their life choices. Otherwise what you said would remain a theoretical proposition in the context of South Asian background.

Did anyone think what would happen if husband had an affair instead of wife?
She would never kill him. A man would have had option to bring the other woman home as second wife. What option women have???
Even the poor woman had asked for divorce, she wouldn't be given it. Even if she was given divorce, her husband would take the kids. If she was allowed to take the kids, she would have no place to take them .
Is there any way out for women if they are from poor background?

It is known and a fact that more married men have illicit relationships for what ever reasons. And some of them do not even hesitate to hide it. But then why no men are ever killed by the wife's brothers or father.May be we as a society think that they are honoring the family by going around with more than one woman.

Divorce was the solution but for these illiterate people it will be a black mark on their honor if they leave wife, daughter.....
Need some harsh laws to keep these kind of killing away . Need to stop those Jirga where elder village people make decision which also a narrow minded thinking.

Does all circumstances you discussed, women may build affair with an other man.
This is a local issue and should be dealt with norms and culture of land. Imported solutions and slogan only blow the issue for a short time.
If you see the pics of the persons who have killed both women and her paramour are looking confident of what they have committed.
Sexual freedom has no place in our South Asian societies, the way we are dealing with the culprits of honour killing which ruin all the family by putting all male members behind the bars for this crime, people may opt for abortion in near future if they come to know they are going to begotten father of a girl.
Look at future repercussions and take guide lines from vetren scholars and anthropologist how to deal with this issue.

Please educate these people! Or if education can't be provided then Impose strict laws and regulations with strict security system against person committing crime. If someone is interested in someone else, Let her live her own life and get separation. If she is doing something wrong, she will pay for it. How these people think that they are authorized to punish whoever they want.

My Blame to Parents: Why you provide an environment to your family that they ditched into any illegal affairs. I blame to women: When you are married (whether forced) then you should be Honest or dis-respect your parents not your husbands. I blame to men: You know women then why you provide them with open environments.
