SWABI, Dec 7: Director general of Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA), Raja Changez Sultan, has said that co-curricular activities are part of education, urging students to participate in healthy and positive activities.

He was speaking at the concluding ceremony of All Pakistan Arts Gala Competition held at the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology on Saturday.

The two-day competition was organized by Naqsh Art Society of the institute and Mr Changez Sultan was the chief guest on the occasion.

He said it was encouraging to note that the GIK Institute was not only at the forefront of engineering education field, but also in a number of extra-curricular activities.

He stressed that curricular and co-curricular activities should be combined, saying that students should not ignore the latter, especially the arts, which could infuse a balance in human life.

He appreciated the society’s management and stressed creating more professional organizations of students. Earlier, the chief guest awarded shields to the winners.

The first and second prizes of portrait competition were captured by Amina and Aysha Butt of Punjab University. The first prize of landscape competition went to Aqsa Malik of Punjab University and the second prize to Maria Anjum of Lahore College for Women.

GIKI rector Dr Mohammad Naseer Khan said that the institute had a rich and proud tradition of extracurricular and co-curricular activities.

CONFERENCE: A two-day International Multitopic Conference (INMIC), 2003, organized by the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, will begin in Islamabad on Monday.

The event is being sponsored by the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineering (IEEE), Islamabad.

A spokesman for GIKI said here on Sunday that the chairman of NESCOM and distinguished nuclear scientist Dr Samar Mubarakmand will be the chief guest.

He said the main objective of the conference was to enhance the application and industrial perspective of latest technologies and to share technical expertise among scientists and engineers of the world.

He said that experts from Denmark, Bangladesh, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and some other countries would participate in the moot.

VISIT: A South Korean delegation, including Pakistan ambassador to Seoul, will visit the GIKI on Tuesday.

The purpose of the visit is to assess the potential of Pakistani IT manpower for placement with Korean IT companies.

Four members of Pakistan Software Export Board/ministry of information technology will also accompany the delegation.
