SUKKUR: The Sindh High Court Sukkur circuit bench comprising Justice Syed Hassan Azhar Rizvi and Justice Khadim Hussain M. Shaikh directed petitioner Maulana Nasir Mehmood Soomro to submit a copy of the final charge-sheet of his father’s assassination case. Adjourning the hearing of the petition till Oct 17, the bench also asked him to submit a copy of the police report about the car used in the crime.

Maulana Soomro had filed the petition through his lawyer, Advocate Athar Iqbal Solangi, stating that the anti-terrorism court hearing the Nov 29, 2014 assassination case of his father, Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro — the then Sindh secretary general of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl — had not recorded a complete statement of the accused, Mohammed Iqbal Soomro, which had weakened the case.

The petitioner prayed to the court to issue directives in this regard.

Hearing the petition on Monday, the bench directed Advocate Solangi to submit with it copies of the final charge-sheet, the police report about the car used in the crime and certain other details before the next hearing fixed for Oct 17.

Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro was shot dead while he was saying the Fajr prayers at a mosque adjacent to his seminary in the SITE area of Sukkur on Nov 29, 214.

The JUI-F after holding a number of protest demonstrations and rallies since the incident demanding a speedy trial of the case and finally held a long march from Sukkur to Karachi recently to press the government to transfer the case to a military court.
