SWABI: The capacity building training (CBT) programme for councillors in the district was launched here on Sunday so they could know about the local government laws, budgeting processes, and their powers.

The launching ceremony was held at the district council hall at Shahmansoor Complex, which was attended by elected representatives and officials of the district administration.

The gathering was also attended by Step Towards Empowerment of People (Step) director Ubaidullah Chaudhry, district nazim Ameer Rehman, district/tehsil councillors and TMA officials.

The project named Citizens’ Voice Project is supported by USAID and the task of training has been given to Step, an NGO. The CBT is being organised in collaboration with the provincial local government department to build the capacity of elected representatives.

Mr Chaudhry said that the required training to run the local government affairs would be given to the newly-elected representatives of the district assembly members, tehsil councillors and village/neighborhood councillors of Swabi and Topi tehsils.

Nazim says training to help councillors to properly run LG system

“The councillors would be trained by master trainers about the LG laws, budgeting processes and participatory planning through modules of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act 2013,” he said.

The district nazim said that the training was important as they would come to know about their delegated powers and using the same for good governance and welfare of the people.

“We want the elected representatives to properly run the local government affairs and deliver to the masses,” he said.

MURDER CASE: Swabi police on Sunday claimed that the wife of Shakirullah, who was found dead in mysterious circumstances on June 14, had poisoned him to death with the help of two other people.

After the medical report, police have arrested wife of the deceased, who claimed that Ali Hussain and his brother Khan Hussain had helped her in the murder. Police later arrested Khan Hussain and Javid Khan, the woman’s father.
