DANANG (Vietnam): Pakistan beat arch-rivals India 30-28 to claim the kabaddi gold medal in the ongoing Asian Beach Games here on Tuesday.

The victors started off well, winning the first half 16-11. The Indians gained lead in the second half by taking the scoreline to 17-14, an effort that later went in vain.

Pakistan’s success comes after four consecutive failed attempts to grab gold in the past. They were beaten by India in the finals in 2008 and 2010 and Iran downed them in 2012 and 2014.

The win comes amid uncertainty surrounding Pakistan’s participation in the upcoming Kabaddi World Cup which is set to kick off in Gujarat, India on October 7.

The event schedule, released by the Indian media does not mention Pakistan in it.
