BAHAWALPUR: Three ‘state-of-the-art’ parks having beautiful landscaping, fancy birds, fountains, swings and sports facilities have been proposed, one each in the three district headquarters of the division.

Commissioner Saib Zafar said this while presiding over a meeting here on Thursday that was attended by District Coordination Officer (DCO) Dr Ehtasham Anwar Mahar, forest conservator Faisal Haroon, Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Director Qadhafi Bin Shakoor and other officials of related departments.

According to the commissioner, a park comprising 67 acres has been proposed for Bahawalpur city at an estimated cost of about 190 million, another of 30 acres costing about Rs100 million for Bahawalnagar and a 58-acre park costing around Rs280 million for Rahim Yar Khan. The parks will be established during the next year.

He said the tendency to tarnish the beauty of the cities by displaying banners, hoardings and other advertising material at important crossings and official buildings should be discouraged.

The DCO, who is also PHA director general informed the meeting that beautification and renovation of as many as 17 parks had been completed in the city while flowerbeds and greenbelts were being developed along city roads.
