GUJRANWALA: Teams probing the Nandipur power plant case on Friday learnt that security guard Bilqias set crucial record on fire after breaking the glass of a rack.
Forensic examination declared that Bilqias burnt the record and he confessed to committing the crime at the behest of Chief Security Officer Rana Mehtab Alam Khan.
Aroop Town SHO Khurram Shahzad told Dawn that police arrested security guards Bilqias Khan and Salahuddin on the report of CSO Rana Mehtab. During interrogation, he said, Bilqias confessed that he broke the glass of a rack and set the record on fire.
When police visited the record room of the power station and found bloodstain on glass, it was sent to Lahore forensic laboratory which confirmed Bilqias’ involvement.
He said Rana Mehtab was initially complainant of the case but was later suspended from service and made accused on suspicion of his involvement. Later, he got bail first from the Lahore High Court and then from the Gujranwala sessions court till Sept 30. The court extended his bail till Oct 8.
The court sent Bilqias Khan on 14-day judicial remand.
Meanwhile, the authorities have transferred Nandipur DSP Zahid.
SUICIDE BID FOILED: Police guards foiled a suicide bid by a widow who wanted to jump from the water tank of the City Police Officer’s office in protest against the police action here on Friday.
Reports said that Surayya Bibi sold some property of her deceased husband to a property dealer for meeting her expenditures. She said the dealer purchased the property at cheap rates and gave her cheque which was bounced.
She said the Jinnah Road police were reluctant to arrest the accused despite the registration of a case against him.
RALLY: The transgender people took out a rally on GT Road in protest against the Indian aggression on the line of control and killing of two army men.
Carrying banners and placards, they shouted slogans against the Indian forces and also burnt an effigy of the Indian prime minister.
The rally, led by their leader Imtiaz alias Sohni, started from the Sialkoti Gate and terminated at Gondlanwala Chowk.
