LAHORE: Ten students from India-held Kashmir will be provided free of cost education and lodging at the Punjab University, an official said Wednesday.
Starting next session in Sept/Oct of 2017, 10 students hailing from India-held Kashmir will be allowed to study at the varsity for free and stay at its hostels every year, vice-chancellor Mujahid Kamran announced.
The announcement comes as Kashmir is witnessing its largest protests against Indian rule in recent years, sparked by the July 8 killing of a popular separatist Burhan Wani by Indian soldiers.
The protests, and a sweeping security crackdown, have all but paralysed life in the region, and instruction at schools and colleges has been seriously affected.
More than 80 civilians have been killed and thousands injured in violence related to the ongoing protests, with government forces firing bullets and shotgun pellets at stone-throwing protesters.

@SB Sir do not worry these are the ten who applied for otherwise for us Kashmirs are as much Pakistani as we are and there is no discrimination for them to work in all over Pakistan and proof of it is well educated and well settled Kashmiri generation working all over Pakistan and world

@simon Sir I have one question. Whenever I happen to talk with my Indian friends they come with long list of benefits Kashmiris are enjoying under Indian rule then what is all this? Why in these long 70 years India is not able to integrate this small population of Kahmiris with them while they are living all happily with Pakistan? Proof of it is that not a single tear gas shell is fired in Pakistani Kashmir in past 70 years.

There should be a special quotas for Kashmiris from across the LoC in all the universities of the four provinces. This must include Sikh Kashmiris as well. This should have been done much before.

Excellent! Let try to increase the numbers as soon as it becomes possible. Universities in other provinces should take lead from Punjab University and start facilitating IOK students in similar manner.

@Nomi Goraya Yes that is actually true. Being a Pakistani I know Kashmiris in Pakistan are more prosperous than most Pakistanis. Though this is also because of British Kashmiris who are sending millions of Pounds from UK. Mirpur stores also accept pounds as a currency for local shopping. Poverty is there in Kashmir also in Pakistan, but no tear gas, live fire by police and armed forces, no curfews etc., God bless U Pakistan First.

@Arun-KS Sir from your name I am assuming hat you are Indian we did not help your countryman but students from Kashmir as we support them for their JUST cause. As far as your concern for Afghan nationals are concerned sir they are also getting education and enjoying all benefits as all Pakistanis are getting and proof of it is that current ruling class of Afghanistan mostly was born in Pakistan and got educated in Pakistan. I happened to meet one Afghan friend of mine in Europe and just sharing his comments that "some people ask what Pakistan has given to Afghanistan my answer to them is EDUCATION as only those Afghans are educated who settled in Pakistan" Sir sometime people make so much noise that it is real hard to see beyond the dust but realities remain realities

I am a doc treating lot of Pakistani patients - a lot of them are economically poor and need help in bills payment. When I read such news these look quite comical. Charity begins at home - so its better to raise Pakistan's infrastructure esp in medical care. Even routine surgery is not available there so its better to invest any such money there. This game of political oneupmanship & Kashmir is ruining both the nations
