HYDERABAD: The 12th Dawn in Education National Spelling Bee competition was held at the Sindh Museum on Friday in which a large number of enthusiastic students from several public and private schools of Hyderabad district took part.

The young and energetic contestants drew rapturous appla­use from the audience at the competition organised by the Dawn Media Group in partnership with DawnNews and CityFM89.

They also astonished the judge as they spelt out correctly difficult words, including negotiable, transparent, pathetic, fluid, ethnic and others.

The participants were divided into three age groups of 15-17, 12-14 and 9-11, which went through their separate two rounds each.

Hyderabad divisional director of information department, Khursheed Ahmed Shaikh, acted as judged at the Hyderabad round of the competition with Momin Zafar as pronouncer.

Hyderabad police range DIG Khadim Hussain Rind distributed certificates among winners as chief guest. The winners belonged to Army Public School, Cantonment Hyderabad; The City School Jinnah Campus, Qasimabad, and Beaconhouse Schools System, Qasimabad.

The contestants who belong to public and private schools out of Hyderabad district will also participate in the 12th Dawn in Education National Spelling Bee competition at Sindh Museum today (Saturday), while the Sukkur round of the competition will be organised at IBA auditorium on Oct 18.

A large number of teachers, parents and guardians of students enjoyed several rounds of the competition held throughout the day.
