PESHAWAR: As desired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to pay tribute to the people of Nawa Kallay that produced world champions in squash, a special electricity feeder was inaugurated in a ceremony here on Saturday to ensure smooth supply of electricity to the village.
Peshawar Electric Supply Company’s chief executive Anwarul Haq Yousafzai was the chief guest on the occasion who inaugurated the feeder-II (Nawa Kallay) at the Kohat Road grid station. Former world champion and Pesco’s member board of directors Qamar Zaman, project director Iqbal Khan, executive engineer (construction) Fawad Khan, Nawa Kallay nazim Sajjad Khan and PML-N leader Sharafat Ali Mubarak attended the ceremony.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr Yousafzai said that feeder-II costing Rs10 million would benefit over 10,000 families of Nawa Kallay, a village whose players achieved great name and fame for the country in the world of squash. He said that the name of Nawa Kallay was also enlisted in the Gunnies Book because of its unmatchable distinction in the world.

He said that the five kilometers transmission line of 11,000KV from Kohat Road grid station to Nawa Kallay had 50 poles to ensure smooth supply of electricity to the residents of the village.
He said that the company had taken action against those using kunda and claimed that now there was zero loadshedding in Peshawar, Haripur, Abbottabad, Mardan and some other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“If people would extend cooperation to us against kunda mafia and also pay their bills timely, I assure them that there would be no loadshedding even before 2018 elections,” he said.
Of the 300 feeders there are over 100 feeders where no loadshedding is carried out. He said that work on installation of 38 new grid stations had already been started across KP and with these complaints of low voltage, tripping and frequent power breakdowns would be redressed.
He said that work on Sheikh Mohammadi-Hayatabad alternative transmission line would be completed by end of November this year that would provide electricity to Peshawar in case of any major breakdown.
He said that completion of Madyan and Barikot grid stations by Dec 2016 would provide the consumers improved supply of electricity.
The PESCO chief said that the distribution system was being improved throughout the province to facilitate consumers.
Earlier, former squash world champion Qamar Zaman, nazim Imtiaz Khan and Sarafat Ali in their address praised the Pesco staff for completion of the project in a record time.
