GHALANAI: A security man was killed and five others were injured in two bomb blasts in the Mohmand tribal region on Sunday.

A roadside blast occurred in the Dawezai area of Pandyali tehsil, leaving a security man dead.

Assistant Political Agent (APA) Naveed Akbar told Dawn that Sepoy Kashif Khan was going to the Rasheed checkpost to perform his duty when an improvised explosive device (IED) placed on the road went off. He suffered critical injuries and was airlifted to the Combined Military Hospital in Peshawar where he died during treatment.

Meanwhile, five security personnel were injured when their vehicle hit an improvised explosive device on Chmar­kand Road in the Aliangar area of Safi tehsil.

The APA of Upper Mohmand, Haseebur Rehman Khalil, said that soon after the blasts, personnel of Khassadar and Levies Force conducted a search operation in the areas.

The injured were taken to a local hospital. They were identified as Anwar Zeb, Akbarullah, Jan Mohammad, Asad Khan and Qaisar Khan.

After the two blasts, the political administration imposed curfew in the two !areas.
