CHITRAL: The government has awarded cash prizes to 25 schools in the district for showing good performance.

The cash prize of Rs0.450 million was given away to head of each of the 25 schools — 19 for boys and six for girls — by MPA Bibi Fozia and district nazim Maghfirat Shah at a function here on Tuesday.

The elementary and secondary education department, under its incentive programme, has started awarding cash prizes to schools for their good performance.

Speaking on the occasion, Bibi Fozia said that as per vision of PTI chief Imran Khan, all out efforts were being made by the government to bring about revolution in the public sector schools. She said that the department of education was purged from political influence and started producing results to pave way for improving quality of education in government schools.

“As many as 8,000 vacancies of teachers were filled through transparent competition process in the province while Rs250 million was spent on the improvement of school buildings only in Chitral district,” said the MPA.

Speaking on the occasion, Maghfirat Shah eulogised the teachers and heads of the best performing schools. He said the district government was also giving top priority to education sector.

Hanifullah, the district education officer, said that the best performing schools were selected on the basis of examination results, attendance of students, presence of teachers, increase in enrolment and low dropout rate.

The prize winning schools include government high schools for boys in Werkup, Melp, Bumburate, Kosht, Ujnu, Madak Lusht, Shongush Oveer, Madak, Kuju, Sonoghur, Broze, Muzhgol and Tar Sheshi Koh areas and girls’ schools in Koghuzi, Reshun, Barenis, Singoor and Ayun areas.
