The number of ghost employees working in various government departments of Balochistan is around 50,000, said Public Accounts Committee Chairman Abdul Majeed Khan Achakzai on Wednesday.

"There are more than 15,000 ghost teachers in the education department,” Achakzai told Dawn.com after chairing the meeting.

Achakzai revealed the details after chairing a meeting in the Balochistan Assembly.

"I have written to all the concerned departments regarding ghost employees,” Achakzai said.

He added if the department heads failed to cooperate then the chief minister would be approached in this regard.

Inquiry teams would be formed on the district level to trace out ghost employees, assured the spokesperson for chief minister Balochistan.

“No one would be spared,” added the spokesperson.

Most of the ghost employees have been reported in the education and health departments of the province.
