CHITRAL: Students of local schools and colleges evinced great interest in the science and art exhibition and came out with projects in different fields of science, receiving appreciation.

The exhibition, which concluded on Sunday, was held under the auspices of Frontier Corps Public School (FCPS).

FCPS clinched the first prizes in the fields of chemistry, physics, biology and paintings while Aga Khan Higher Secondary School (AKHS) grabbed first prize in computer science and mathematics.

First prize in calligraphy went to Government College Chitral.

A project of electronic voting system submitted by the students of AKHS attracted a crowd of visitors who evinced great interest in it, while the project of recycling of waste-paper prepared by the FCPS students was also appreciated.

At the stall of art, the material culture of the area was showcased in different ways and angles.

On the concluding day of the exhibition, a large number of people from different walks of life thronged the venue and evinced keen interest in the stalls set up by young scientists.

Commandant of Chitral Scouts, Colonel Nizamuddin Shah was the chief guest on the occasion, and gave away prizes to the students and principals of schools and colleges of public and private sectors.

On the occasion, Mr Shah said that there was no dearth of talent in the students of Chitral, but they needed nourishment and proper harnessing to compete at provincial and national levels.

He said that extracurricular activities inculcated self-confidence and channelised potential of students. He said it was due to this reason that measures were being taken in the schools run by Chitral Scouts.

The Chitral Scouts commandant said the students of the school had proved their mettle and clinched awards in different competitions at district level.

In appreciation of the rigorous work done by the teachers of FCPS in Chitral, Drosh and Mastuj, the commandant announced to increase the salary of the teaching staff by Rs2,500.
