QUETTA: Four suspected militants were killed and three policemen injured during a clash in the Hazarganji area of Quetta on Thursday night.

“Four armed militants were killed in an exchange of fire with security forces,” said Abdul Razzaq Cheema, Deputy Inspector General of Police.

Official sources said that acting on a tip-off personnel of the police and Anti-Terrorist Force accompanied by intelligence officials raided a compound in Hazarganji on the outskirts of the city.

When the security personnel cordoned off the compound, armed men hiding in the place opened fire on them. The suspected militants also hurled hand-grenades at the police and ATF personnel when they entered the compound, injuring three policemen.

A heavy exchange of fire took place between the two sides at the end of which four suspected militants lay dead. Police took the bodies to the civil hospital.

The injured policemen were shifted to the Combined Military Hospital, Quetta.

Police sources said that arms and ammunition were seized from the compound.

It was not immediately clear which organisation or group the deceased belonged to.
